Beluga Steel D57G2115 is a triple Fabbian light for wall or ceiling mounting, designed by Marc Sadler. Three spherical heads of chrome-plated metal, each with a glass lens at the front, sit on an elongated plate of polished chrome-plated metal, and each head can be turned in a different direction.
Size and mounting
The mounting plate measures 37.5 × 7.5 cm and is 1.5 cm thick, and with the heads the light is 40 cm long. The heads are 9 cm in diameter and set 11.6 cm apart, and the whole light projects 12.3 cm from the wall or ceiling, a figure worth checking in a narrow hallway, for example, where a wall-mounted light reaches into the passage. It weighs 1.385 kg.
The same construction works on a wall and on a ceiling, so on a ceiling the three heads can be aimed at one wall, a picture or part of the room, and on a wall downwards or upwards.
Light source and dimming
Each head has a GU10 lampholder. Bulbs are not included; the manufacturer specifies three 7 W LED lamps, and the maximum is 50 W per lampholder. Colour and brightness are therefore chosen when buying the bulbs: for a living room usually 2700–3000 K, a warm white.
The light can be dimmed with a phase-cut dimmer over a 30–100% range, provided the LED bulbs fitted are marked as dimmable. The supply is 220–240 V.
Where it fits
The gleaming chrome and spherical heads give a modern form in the spirit of Italian design. It is intended for living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, hallways, studies and offices, in dry interiors only. The Beluga range also has chrome versions with one and two heads, and versions with coloured glass.
