Farum is a wall light designed by the American brand Kichler and distributed by Elstead Lighting. A curved arm in champagne bronze rises from a round black backplate and holds a conical shade of shiny opal glass. Stepped bronze rings wrap the lampholder above the shade, echoed by two small studs on the backplate.
Size and where to mount it
The fitting is 24 cm high and 17.8 cm wide, and it projects 21.5 cm from the wall. Compare that projection with the space beside your mirror or cabinet, especially if the light will hang next to a walkway. It weighs 0.95 kg.
The IP44 rating means protection against water splashing from any direction, which is why the manufacturer approves the light for bathrooms, for example beside a mirror above the basin. It is for indoor use only. It is protection class I, so it must be connected to an earth conductor; the wall box needs an earth wire.
Choosing the light source
The light has one G9 lampholder rated for an LED lamp of up to 3 W. No lamp is included, so one has to be bought separately. Elstead recommends a dimmable 3 W G9 LED capsule at 3000 K for this fitting, a warm white that does not noticeably shift skin tones at the mirror.
The fitting can be dimmed, but only with a lamp marked as dimmable and a suitable dimmer. The milky opal glass diffuses the light, so the capsule itself is not seen as a bright point.
Where Farum works
It is intended for bathrooms and dining rooms. In a bathroom, a pair of these lights on either side of the mirror gives even light on the face without shadows on one side. The frame is steel, and the combination of matt black with metallic bronze stands out clearly against light tiles. The Farum family also includes an all champagne bronze version and a polished chrome one, so the finish can be matched to your taps.
