Kai Flush Ceiling Light - 1 Light - Brushed Gold & Rattan Elstead

The Kai flush light by Alora Mood is a woven, rattan-look shade shaped like a low bell with a turned-out lower rim, mounted directly to the ceiling on a round brushed-gold canopy. The weave is a natural honey brown and the frame is steel. The fitting is distributed by Elstead Lighting.

Size

The shade is 40.6 cm across and the whole fitting 26.5 cm deep. Under a 250 cm ceiling its lower edge sits at about 223 cm, higher than a standard door — so it suits places where a pendant would hang too low: a hallway, corridor or bedroom. A diameter of around 40 cm looks right in rooms of a few to a dozen or so square metres. It weighs 1.7 kg and is Class I (earth conductor required).

Bulb and light

Inside is one E27 socket for a bulb of up to 60 W; no bulb is supplied. An LED bulb of about 800 lm — the old 60 W equivalent — is enough as the main light of a corridor or small bedroom. Light leaves mainly through the open bottom of the shade, while a warm, diffuse glow passes sideways through the weave; the lit product photo shows the lower rim glowing as a bright ring. With a dimmable bulb and a dimmer, brightness can be adjusted.

Which rooms it suits

The manufacturer lists the living room, bedroom, dining room and corridor. A natural weave with a gold accent is a rustic, boho form; the Kai wall light and small pendant share the same material and colour.
