WILLARD is a wall light laid out vertically: a cylinder of clear prismatic glass sits on a flat brass backplate, closed top and bottom by profiled brass caps. The whole thing stands 46.7 cm tall on just 11.2 cm of width and 9.5 cm of projection — a fitting that grows upward rather than outward.
The prismatic glass
The shade is neither opal nor frosted. Clear glass with dense vertical ribbing refracts the light at the edges of the prisms, so the surface of the cylinder glitters in fine highlights instead of glowing evenly. It is an Art Deco device, and the main reason this fitting looks different lit than unlit.
Bulb choice matters here
The fitting takes two E27 lamps of up to 60 W and none are supplied. Because the glass is clear the lamps are visible, which makes their appearance part of the light. Decorative filament lamps in a warm colour suit this shape; a strong opal bulb kills the prismatic effect entirely.
Dimming
The fitting has no dimmer of its own. Dimming is possible, but only if you fit dimmable lamps and wire it to an external dimmer — the luminaire itself dims nothing.
Installation
The steel construction is protection class I and needs an earth connection, so installation is an electrician's job. It is for interior use only and weighs 3.31 kg — pick fixings to suit the wall. The vertical format works in pairs flanking a mirror, beside a door, along a hallway or above a console in an entrance hall. The manufacturer gives a 2-year guarantee.
