London Big 490WH is a NORLYS outdoor wall lantern in the classic shape of a lantern standing on an upward-pointing arm. The cast-aluminium body is powder-coated white (RAL 9003), and the four panes are clear, UV-stabilised polycarbonate.
How big it is and where it goes
The lantern is 67 cm tall and 30.5 cm wide, and it projects 46 cm from the wall. That makes it a large fitting – before buying, measure the free space above the door or next to the frame and compare it with these figures. The manufacturer also allows mounting on the corner of a building.
The wall plate is fixed with four screws through ø5 mm holes spaced 25 × 140 mm. The terminals take conductors up to 2 × 2.5 mm², and the round-sheathed cable must be 7 to 10.5 mm in diameter – a figure to check against the cable already coming out of the wall.
Which bulb and what light
The lantern has an E27 lampholder for an LED bulb of up to 11 W. No bulb is included, and the manufacturer intends the user to replace it without a service visit. An E27 LED bulb of around 800 lm gives as much light as an old 60 W bulb, and 2700–3000 K is warm light.
The cover is clear, so light leaves on every side and the bulb stays visible – its shape becomes part of how the lantern looks.
Protection, safety and style
IP54 means protection against dust and splashing water from any direction, so the lantern can hang on a facade without a canopy. Impact resistance IK07 corresponds to 2 J of impact energy. It is protection class II, double insulated, and needs no earth conductor. The cover is sold separately as a service kit (0904800051), so a cracked pane can be replaced without buying a whole new lamp.
The plain pyramid roof, the pane frames and the curved arm follow English street lanterns in the classic style. The catalogue lists it for gardens, hotels and restaurants, where it lights the entrance and the facade.
