NORLYS Modena Big 380BL outdoor wall lantern, black, upright on an arm, E27, IP54

Modena Big 380BL is a classic NORLYS wall lantern on a curved arm: the hexagonal lantern with clear panes stands above the arm, topped by a sloping roof with a slender spire and finished underneath with a decorative finial. The body is cast aluminium, powder-coated black (RAL 9005).

Size and wall mounting

The fitting is 76 cm tall and 32 cm wide and projects 47 cm from the wall. It is the larger version of the Modena range, so compare its height with the door or pillar it will hang beside, and the 47 cm projection with the width of the path below it.

The backplate is fixed with four screws through ø5 mm holes spaced 25 × 140 mm apart. The terminals take conductors up to 2 × 2.5 mm² in a round sheathed cable of 7–10.5 mm diameter, and an EPDM gland seals the cable entry. For fixing the lantern on the corner of a building, Norlys offers a separate corner bracket, 152XX0009. The fitting weighs 3.36 kg, or 4.3 kg packed.

Which bulb and how much light

Inside is a single E27 lampholder for an A55–A60 bulb no longer than 110 mm, LED up to 9 W. The bulb is not included and can be changed without a service call. An LED bulb of about 800 lm gives roughly the light of an old 60 W incandescent.

The panes are clear, so the bulb stays visible – its shape and light colour become part of the lantern's look. Light leaves through the panes to the sides, while the roof shields it from above.

Build and where it goes

IP54 means protection against dust and splashing water from any direction, so the lantern can hang on an exposed facade. Protection class II is double insulation that needs no earth conductor. Panes of UV-stabilised polycarbonate yellow more slowly in sunlight than ordinary plastic, and if the diffuser is damaged the manufacturer supplies the 06380004 service kit rather than a whole new fitting.

The style is classic with a retro feel: the spire, turned finial and ornate curved arm recall old street lanterns. The lantern is intended for outdoor use on a facade – by the entrance of a house, or on the frontage of a hotel or restaurant.
