The SATELLITE S SENSOR 8011 is a white ceiling lamp shaped as a flattened dome: a painted steel body closed from below by a flat plastic diffuser. A motion sensor sits in the housing and switches the light on without reaching for a switch.

How big it is and how it mounts

The fitting is 38 cm across and 16 cm deep. The dome therefore drops that far below the ceiling, so in a low room it is worth comparing those 16 cm with the headroom left over a walkway. The fitting itself weighs 1.71 kg.

The manufacturer specifies direct mounting — the lamp screws straight to the ceiling, with no canopy and no suspension. Protection class I is stated, which means an earth conductor must reach the ceiling box; without earthing the lamp may not be connected. Supply is 230 V, 50/60 Hz, and the fitting is for indoor use only.

The motion sensor and how it switches

The built-in motion sensor turns the lamp on when it detects movement and off once movement stops — a fit for a corridor, a staircase or an entrance, where hands are often full. The manufacturer publishes neither the detection range nor the angle, so assume the range typical of a ceiling fitting and check it after installation.

The lamp has one lighting section: all three light points come on and go off together and cannot be split across two circuits. One live conductor at the fitting is therefore all the installation needs.

Which bulbs to buy

There are three E27 lampholders. The manufacturer states a maximum of 25 W per holder and restricts it to LED lamps only — a closed body with a plastic diffuser does not carry halogen heat away, so the limit is about the type of lamp, not only its wattage.

Bulbs are not included, so you choose the colour and the brightness: three lamps of around 800 lm each match three old 60 W incandescents, while 3000 K is warm white and 4000 K neutral white. The 45 × 45 × 19 cm carton, 2.76 kg gross, holds the fitting, the instructions and a plexi key used to open the diffuser when changing lamps.
