Piper is a round chandelier by Kichler, distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting. Its 61 cm drum is made of clear glass rods alternating with chrome-finished metal rods, and the lower edge is trimmed with glass balls containing small air bubbles. Six light sources sit inside this curtain, and the whole fitting hangs from a polished chrome chain.
Size and hanging height
The 61 cm diameter is the figure to compare with the width of the table it will hang over — the chandelier is intended for a dining table. The fitting itself is 79.4 cm high, and the overall drop can be set between 89.2 and 275.7 cm by shortening the 182.9 cm chain. Over a standard 75 cm high table, the lower edge is usually set 70–80 cm above the top; the longest drop also allows the chandelier to hang in a room with a high ceiling.
The round ceiling plate is 12.7 cm in diameter and covers a standard junction box.
Light sources and power
The chandelier takes six E14 bulbs of up to 60 W each. Bulbs are not included, so you choose the colour temperature and brightness yourself; the bulbs stay visible through the clear glass, which makes their shape part of how the fitting looks. It can be dimmed when used with bulbs marked as dimmable and a suitable dimmer.
The fitting is protection class I, which means it must be connected to an earth conductor. It weighs 8.5 kg and therefore needs a secure fixing point in the ceiling — on a suspended ceiling, an anchor into the load-bearing structure.
Style and construction
The frame is steel finished in polished chrome, combined with clear glass. Mirror-like metal and hanging glass balls give the piece a glamour character, while the regular cylindrical drum keeps it modern. The Piper range also includes an oval version intended for longer table tops. The chandelier is for indoor use only.
