Piper is a semi-flush ceiling light by Kichler, distributed by Elstead Lighting, made of steel in a polished chrome finish. A round hoop suspended from a central rod and three thin cables carries a ring of vertical clear glass and metal rods, with glass drops and beads hanging below.
Size and where to fit it
The fitting is 37.8 cm tall and 38.1 cm in diameter. As a semi-flush light it sits close to the ceiling without touching it: subtract 37.8 cm from your room height to see where the lowest drops will end up. Over a table 80–90 cm wide, a 38 cm diameter stays within the edges of the top.
Piper weighs 4.4 kg, so the ceiling fixing has to carry that load; on a suspended ceiling it needs a point in the load-bearing structure.
Light sources
Inside the ring there are three E14 lampholders, each for a bulb of up to 60 W. Bulbs are not included. The glass is clear, so the bulbs show between the rods and their shape becomes part of the look. The manufacturer lists the fitting as compatible with dimmable lamps: dimming needs such bulbs and a dimmer on the circuit.
Piper is protection class I, so it must be connected to an earth conductor. It is intended for indoor use.
Which interiors it suits
Polished chrome with clear glass gives the fitting a modern character with a glamour accent: plain, linear rods balance the decorative drops. It suits bedrooms, dining rooms and living rooms, especially where a pendant on a long drop would hang too low above people's heads.
