s.luce Orb Modular 3-light pendant, smoked and clear glass, white canopy

s.luce Orb Modular is a pendant light made of three glass globes, 20, 30 and 40 cm across, each hanging on its own cable from a single round canopy. In this version two of the globes – the smallest and the largest – are smoked glass and the middle one is clear, while the canopy and cables are white.

Size and suspension

The XL Modular canopy is 40 cm in diameter, and the cables let the globes drop as far as 500 cm. The height of each globe and its position under the canopy are set individually, so they can be staggered or gathered into one group. A drop that long makes most sense in double-height spaces, stairwells and tall entrance halls.

The set weighs about 5.9 kg. The manufacturer notes that a single-layer plasterboard ceiling carries about 40 kg on average and a double-layer one about 70 kg, so choose suitable fixings for your ceiling. The light is supplied ready to connect.

Bulbs and dimming

Each globe has an E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 40 W, three in total. Bulbs are not included, so you choose the colour and brightness yourself. In the clear globe the bulb is fully visible, which suits a decorative shape, while the smoked glass softens the light and gives the globes a graphite tone.

The light can be dimmed as long as bulbs marked dimmable are fitted and it is wired to a dimmer. It runs on 230 V and is protection class I, so it needs an earth conductor.

Where it fits

The form is modern and minimalist: smooth, undecorated globes, thin cables and a flat canopy. Globes of three sizes in two glass tones build a vertical composition that fills a tall space above a living room, in a hallway or in a stairwell. s.luce states that every globe is made by hand.
