s.luce Orb pendant lamp, brown glass globe 50 cm, white suspension, 1x E27

The s.luce Orb is a pendant lamp built around a mouth-blown glass globe 50 cm across, in a translucent brown tone. The globe hangs from a white textile cable, and the three-arm suspension and ceiling cup are white-lacquered aluminium. A single E27 lampholder sits inside the globe and stays visible through the glass.

How big it is and how high to hang it

The globe measures 50 cm in diameter. That is noticeably more than a 40 cm shade, which keeps its proportions over a table 80-90 cm wide, so the Orb in this size asks for a wider top or a spot where it hangs on its own. Measure the width of your table and set it against this diameter before you choose.

The maximum drop is 150 cm and the cable is shortened during installation, so you match the height to your own ceiling. Over a table the bottom edge of the shade is usually set 70-80 cm above the top, which puts light across the whole surface without shining into the eyes of anyone seated.

Which bulb you need

The fitting takes one E27 lamp of up to 40 W. No bulb is included, so you choose the colour of the light and the brightness yourself. The manufacturer adds a limit no photograph shows: the lamp has to pass through the opening in the globe, and at 50 cm diameter that means a bulb no more than 15 cm across. Decorative vintage-filament lamps stay within that limit, but their size is worth checking before you buy.

The lamp can be dimmed provided you use a bulb described as dimmable together with a dimmer. The fitting itself carries no built-in control gear.

Glass, finish and where it belongs

The globe is mouth-blown, so small bubbles, veils and inclusions in the glass are a characteristic feature of this lamp - every piece carries them in a different arrangement. The brown glass is translucent: with the light on the bulb remains visible through it, which matters when choosing a source, because its shape stays part of how the lamp looks.

The fitting is rated IP20 and protection class I, so it is meant for dry interiors and needs a connection with an earth conductor. The manufacturer intends it above the dining table, above the kitchen worktop, and for the living room and bedroom.
