Swell wall light - 2 light sources - Brushed Brass Elstead

Swell is a two-light bathroom wall light by Quoizel, distributed by Elstead Lighting. A horizontal brushed brass arm fixed to a round wall plate carries two frosted, ribbed glass shades on curved hooks, with the open end of each shade facing down.

Size and where it goes

The wall light is 35.7 cm wide and 23.7 cm high, and it projects 17.1 cm from the wall – compare the width with the mirror or cabinet it will hang above. The fitting weighs 1.8 kg and has a steel frame.

The IP44 rating means protection against splashing water from any direction, and the manufacturer specifies the fitting for interiors including bathrooms. It is protection class I, so it is connected with a protective earth conductor.

Light sources included

Both shades hold G9 lampholders, and the manufacturer supplies two 3 W LED G9 capsules in the box. Each gives 300 lm at 3000 K, a warm white – 600 lm in total. The manufacturer quotes a 28 W traditional-bulb equivalent per light and CRI 80.

The rated life is 25,000 hours, about 22 years at 3 hours a day. The light sources are not built in: when they wear out you replace the G9 capsules, not the fitting. The wall light is compatible with dimmable lamps – dimming needs a dimmer switch and G9 capsules marked as dimmable.

Finish

Brushed brass has a warm, soft sheen with a fine texture, and the frosted glass hides the capsules and spreads the light inside the shades. The catalogue places the fitting in the bathroom and the dining room.
