The Quintiesse Palmas sets three ribbed glass spheres in a row on a narrow, rounded backplate — an arrangement the maker itself traces back to a string of pearls. The fitting is 58.7 cm long and only 15.1 cm high, so it reads as a horizontal bar, but it projects 20.3 cm from the wall, worth checking before mounting it in a narrow passage.

Glass and finish

The spheres are smoked glass with dense vertical ribbing. That ribbing breaks the lit point into dozens of narrow highlights, so the fitting sparkles when on and reads as glass jewellery rather than a matt shade when off. The metalwork — backplate, arms and holders — is brushed gold, matt enough not to mirror light from the rest of the room as a hot spot.

Light output

Three integrated LED modules give a combined 27 W and 1850 lm at 3000 K. That is enough to light a zone rather than merely mark it — at a bathroom mirror or above a chest of drawers the fitting works as the primary task light. A colour rendering index of CRI 90 keeps skin and fabric tones true, and because the fitting is dimmable the same light can be pulled back to a mood level in the evening.

IP44 covers splashing water from any direction, so this fitting suits a basin and mirror rather than dry rooms only. It is protection class II — double insulated — and needs no earth conductor. The backplate can be fixed horizontally or vertically: mounted vertically either side of a mirror, the three spheres light the face from both sides with no shadow under the chin; mounted horizontally above a mirror or a bed, they stretch light across nearly 60 cm.
