Bray is a swing-arm wall light from Hinkley, distributed by Elstead Lighting. A conical metal shade swivels on a slim, jointed arm that rises from a rectangular wall plate. The whole fitting is steel in a lacquered brass finish, and the inside of the shade is white.
Dimensions and arm reach
The wall light is 42.5 cm high and the shade 14 cm wide. The arm holds the shade up to 47 cm from the wall — compare that with the distance from the wall to the spot you want lit, such as the middle of a pillow or the back of an armchair. The arm is jointed and the shade rotates, so the beam can be aimed at a book or a desk rather than at your eyes.
The fitting weighs 1.88 kg. The shade is opaque, so light leaves only through its open end and does not spill sideways.
Bulb, switch and connection
There is one E27 socket for a bulb of up to 60 W. The bulb is not included, so you choose its colour temperature and brightness yourself. The light works with dimmable bulbs — dimming needs such a bulb and a dimmer in the circuit.
A switch is hidden in the fitting, so the light is turned on and off at the lamp itself. It is Class I, which means it must be connected to an earth conductor. The manufacturer intends it for indoor use.
Where to hang it
The manufacturer intends Bray for the bedside and for reading corners, in homes as well as hotel rooms. It suits bedrooms, living rooms, studies, dining rooms and hallways — wherever you need light directed at one spot rather than lighting for the whole room.
The form is modern and minimalist: a smooth cone, a thin arm and a flat plate with no ornament. The same fitting is also available in a black finish (HK-BRAY-1WB-BK).
