Ceiling light RIO 78 olive green LED 3000K

RIO 78 is a ceiling light shaped as a slim aluminium ring 78 cm across, finished in olive green. The ring is fixed by its side to a cylindrical canopy in the same colour, and the LED module runs along its whole circumference, shining downwards. The fitting belongs to the RIO collection by the Polish brand Thoro.

How big it is and where to fit it

The ring itself is 78 cm in diameter; with the canopy, which sits outside the ring, the fitting takes up 84 cm of ceiling. It projects only 13 cm from the ceiling, so it also works in rooms with a lower ceiling, where a pendant would take up headroom. Compare the 84 cm with the width of the room, or of the table the light is meant to sit above.

The fitting weighs 1.9 kg. According to the manufacturer's instructions the canopy is screwed to the ceiling with two screws and wall plugs, and the ring is rigidly joined to it — there are no cables or suspension wires. The light is intended as the main light in a living room, bedroom, kitchen, dining room or hallway.

How much light it gives, and what kind

The source is a built-in 33 W LED module with a luminous flux of 4370 lm. That equals about five old 60 W bulbs, so the ceiling light can light a whole room on its own. The module is integrated into the fitting: there is no bulb to buy or replace.

At 3000 K the light is warm white, and a colour rendering index of CRI 93 means that the colours of walls, fabrics and food on the table look natural under it — which matters in a kitchen or dining room.

Connection and construction

The fitting is protection class I. The installation drawing shows a terminal block with L, N and protective earth terminals, so the ceiling box needs an earth conductor. The light runs directly on 230 V mains and needs no separate driver.

The ring and the canopy are made of aluminium, and the fitting is manufactured in Poland. In the RIO collection the 78 ceiling light also comes in white, black, gold, beige and ochre red, and the collection's vertical pendants and chandeliers use the same ring, so several fittings in one interior can be matched to each other.
