Downlight HVAR 10488 Nowodvorski Extra Price

HVAR is a recessed ceiling luminaire built as a cylindrical tube of lacquered aluminium in white. The tube is cut at an angle, so its round light opening does not sit parallel to the ceiling. Version 10488 is the white one; the same body is also made in black.

The cut-out the ceiling needs

The fitting drops into a round cut-out 6.5 cm across and is held by two spring clips that open out above the ceiling board. The body itself is 8.5 cm wide — noticeably wider than the hole, whose edge it covers — and 11.5 cm tall, which is the clearance to measure above a suspended ceiling before ordering.

HVAR is protection class I, so its aluminium body has to be connected to an earth conductor. The point needs three cores at the box, not two. Supply is 230 V, 50/60 Hz.

The lamp you buy separately

The luminaire has one light point with a GX53 lampholder and no lamp is included. GX53 is a flat disc lamp that pushes in and locks with a twist — GU10 reflectors and E14 candles do not fit this holder, so the lamp has to be bought in that exact standard. The maker sets a 12 W ceiling and allows LED only: a closed aluminium tube will not shed the heat of a halogen.

Colour temperature and brightness come with the lamp you choose, not with the fitting. The angled cut screens the lamp on one side and exposes it on the other, so the beam leaves at a slant to the ceiling. That suits grazing a wall, a run of joinery or a picture rather than lighting a whole room evenly from one point.

Where it may be installed

IP20 protection and the maker's indoor-only rating rule out mounting outdoors and inside bathroom protection zones — above a bath, in a shower or on a terrace this fitting has no place. The data sheet lists it for the living room, bedroom, dining room, hallway, teenager's room, office and study, as well as hotel and restaurant interiors.

The shape is modern and minimal: a smooth cylinder with no ornament, a single flat white finish, and the angled cut as the only pronounced detail. Set in a white ceiling the body all but disappears and what stays visible is the rim of the opening.
