Halston is an Alora Mood wall light with a cone-shaped shade in glossy cased opal glass. The shade hangs open side down from a short, curved arm that comes out of a round wall plate; the arm, the plate and the ring at the neck of the shade are matte black. The manufacturer draws the silhouette from 1950s fashion and mixes vintage touches with a contemporary form. It is distributed in Poland by Elstead Lighting.
Dimensions and installation
The wall light is 22.2 cm high and the shade is 20.3 cm across at its base. It projects 21.8 cm from the wall — a figure to compare with the width of a corridor or the distance to a bedside table. The round wall plate is 11.5 cm in diameter and 2.5 cm deep, so it covers a standard electrical box. The light weighs 1.7 kg.
Bulb and light
There is one E14 lampholder for a bulb of up to 40 W. No bulb is supplied, so you choose the colour and brightness — for bedrooms and living rooms a warm 2700–3000 K is the usual pick. The shade is open at the bottom: most of the light falls downwards onto the wall and floor beneath the fitting, while the opal glass glows softly across its whole surface and hides the bulb itself.
The fitting is compatible with dimmable bulbs: dimming needs such a bulb and a dimmer switch. It is a Class I fitting, which must be connected to earth, and it is for indoor use.
Where it fits
The manufacturer intends Halston for living rooms, bedrooms and corridors, and it also serves a dining room as wall light. The plain cone, black details and white glass make a modern fitting with a retro note that looks good in pairs — either side of a bed, a mirror or a doorway.
