Harper Flush Ceiling Light - 3 light sources - Heritage Brass Elstead

Harper is a flush ceiling light by Hinkley, distributed by Elstead Lighting, shaped as a low drum that sits tight against the ceiling. A shade of clear seeded glass – clear glass with trapped air bubbles – is bound by a prominent metal ring, held by two posts ending in knurled knobs. The steel body is finished in Heritage Brass, a warm, satin brass tone.

Size and mounting

The fitting is 40.9 cm in diameter and only 15.9 cm tall. It fixes directly to the ceiling with no cut-out, and the low profile leaves plenty of clear space below it – which matters in rooms with a low ceiling, where a pendant would get in the way. It weighs 3.67 kg.

It is a Class I fitting, so it must be connected to a protective earth conductor. The manufacturer specifies it for interior use only.

Bulbs and light

Inside are three E27 lampholders, each rated for a bulb of up to 60 W. Bulbs are not included – you need to buy three and choose the colour and brightness yourself. The glass is clear and the bubbles only soften the light slightly, so the bulbs are visible through the shade; the manufacturer recommends clear Edison-style E27 LED bulbs for this fitting, whose filament becomes part of the look.

The fitting is compatible with dimmable bulbs – with a dimmer on the circuit, all three must be marked as dimmable.

Style and use

Harper combines traditional and modern elements: the plain drum and smooth ring sit alongside the knobs and seeded glass, which give the fitting a slightly retro character. As main lighting, this flush ceiling light suits a bedroom, dining room or living room. The same model with clear seeded glass is also available in a polished chrome finish.
