The small Saylor is an LED wall light by Hinkley: a tube of etched opal glass held in an open cage of cross bars between two solid, turned end caps. The steel parts carry the Heritage Brass finish, a warm, slightly muted brass. The fitting is distributed by Elstead Lighting.
Size and mounting
The light is 43.2 cm long and 11.4 cm wide, projects 13 cm from the wall and weighs 1.43 kg. The manufacturer allows horizontal or vertical mounting. Laid horizontally above a mirror, the tube looks in proportion when the mirror is at least as wide as the fitting, so compare 43.2 cm with your mirror's width. Fitted vertically, it suits a narrow strip of wall beside a mirror or next to a door.
The fitting is Class I, so the wiring at the mounting point must include an earth conductor. The Saylor range also has a medium wall light, 61 cm long, for wider mirrors.
What light it gives
The source is an integrated 19 W LED module producing 912 lm, slightly more than a traditional 60 W bulb. At 3000 K the light is warm white, and a colour rendering index of Ra 93 means skin tones and clothing colours look close to daylight at the mirror. The opal glass spreads the light along the full length of the tube, so there is no harsh bright spot.
There are no bulbs to buy: the LED is built in and is not swapped like an ordinary lamp. The manufacturer describes the fitting as dimmable, so brightness can be adjusted with a dimmer in the installation.
Where it works
IP44 means protection against splashing water from any direction, which is why the manufacturer intends Saylor for bathrooms. It works above a bathroom mirror, in a hallway and in a dining room. The plain tube is modern, while the cage of cross bars and the brass end caps recall ship lamps, which brings the fitting close to the Hampton style.
