Amelia Mini Pendant Light - 1 light - Heritage Brass Elstead

Amelia is a small Hinkley pendant light with an opal glass dome shade, hung on rigid rods in a Heritage Brass finish – a warm, satin brass. The bottom of the dome is closed by a glass diffuser with an etched prismatic pattern, and above the shade sits a cast fitter with milky glass inserts. It is distributed by Elstead Lighting.

Size and hanging height

The shade is 29.2 cm in diameter and the fitting itself is 24.8 cm tall. That is smaller than a typical pendant for a six-seat dining table, so a single Amelia suits a small table, a worktop or an island, while over a longer surface several can be hung in a row.

The light hangs on rods rather than a cable: two 30 cm rods and one 15 cm rod are supplied, and the overall drop is set between 31.8 and 99.8 cm by choosing how many rods to use. To place the lower edge of the shade 70–80 cm above a 75 cm high table, subtract about 150 cm from your ceiling height and check that the result falls within that range. The fitting weighs 3.94 kg and is fixed to the ceiling with a round canopy.

Bulb, dimming and connection

The light has one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 60 W. No bulb is included, so you choose the colour and brightness yourself: 2700–3000 K gives the warm light usual in a dining room, and about 800 lm matches an old 60 W bulb. The opal glass diffuses the light, so looking at the pendant you do not see the bright point of the bulb.

The fitting is compatible with dimmable lamps – brightness can be adjusted if you pair a dimmable bulb with a dimmer. It is a Class I fitting, which means the protective earth conductor must be connected in the ceiling box. The manufacturer intends it for indoor use only.

Style and where it fits

Hinkley describes Amelia as a classic pendant reworking vintage details with a retro feel: the cast metal ring around the edge of the dome has prominent hinges and clasps, and the fitter above the shade recalls old lamps with small glass windows. These details read best up close, so it works best hanging low – over a dining table, in the kitchen and above a kitchen island.
