NORLYS Arendal Big 1569BC Bollard Light, Black with Copper Patina, 35 cm, E27

The Arendal Big 1569BC is a 35 cm NORLYS bollard made of two blocks: a steel base with a 12 × 12 cm cross-section and a diffuser of solid crystal glass sitting on top of it. The steel body has a black finish with a copper patina. The glass is satin-finished on the inside, and the manufacturer notes that it may take on an amber tint over time.

Where to place it and how to fix it

At 35 cm high the bollard marks the edge of a path, flower bed, terrace or driveway. The glass block takes up the top 14.6 cm, and the base measures 12 × 12 cm — compare that with the width of the border it is to stand on.

The fitting is fixed with three bolts through ø9 mm holes spaced 120° apart on a ø65 mm circle. The anchor for concreting, the ground anchor, the concrete-foundation adapter and the mounting adapter are sold separately by the manufacturer — one of them has to be chosen to suit the ground. The bollard weighs 6.85 kg net.

Light source and character of the light

Inside is an E27 socket for a classic pear-shaped LED bulb (A55–A60) of up to 9 W. The bulb is not included and the user replaces it. The manufacturer gives an 806 lm / 2700 K LED bulb as an example — the brightness of an old 60 W bulb in a warm light colour.

According to the manufacturer's data sheet, 71% of the light leaves above the horizontal (ULOR 71%), because the whole glass block glows, including its top. The bollard therefore works mainly as a glowing marker and decorative accent rather than a fitting that directs light only onto the ground.

Durability and connection

The IP65 rating means it is dust-tight and protected against water jets, so the bollard can stand in the open; impact resistance is IK06. It is class II and needs no protective earth conductor. The terminals take conductors up to 2 × 2.5 mm², and the supply can be looped on (up to 2 × 1.5 mm²), so several bollards along a path can share one cable. The cable should be round-sheathed, max. ø12.5 mm. A damaged diffuser is available as a spare part.

The plain, geometric form without ornament suits modern and Scandinavian garden designs.
