s.luce Velo 191190 Ceiling Light – Smoke Glass, Black Base, E27, Ø25 cm

The s.luce Velo 191190 is a single ceiling light combining mouth-blown smoke glass with a black metal base. Vertical grooves follow the rounded shade, leaving the bulb visible through the glass. Its shape is therefore part of the buying decision, alongside its wattage. This is the 25 cm diameter version and supplies one light, not the multi-light arrangement shown in some collection photographs.

A 25 cm shade with a 30 cm overall height

Velo mounts directly at the ceiling without a hanging cable. It nevertheless projects 30 cm into the room. Before positioning it in a passageway, compare that measurement with your ceiling height and the clearance above nearby doors. The shade is a three-dimensional glass body, rather than a flat disc against the ceiling.

The bottom of the glass is open. Rounded edges, vertical detailing and a plain black mounting base combine a modern outline with a retro reference. Smoke describes the glass; black describes the metal fixing. The shade is not an opaque black cover, and the light source remains part of its appearance.

One E27 bulb, purchased separately

The fitting takes one E27 bulb rated at a maximum of 40 W. No bulb is included. Brightness and light colour consequently depend on the source you choose, rather than being fixed properties of the fitting. A decorative filament will be visible through the glass, but the photographs do not mean that the illustrated bulb comes in the package.

The manufacturer allows dimming with a suitable light source. This requires a dimmable bulb and compatible control equipment. Fitting an ordinary non-dimmable bulb into Velo does not make it dimmable; check the proposed combination before purchase.

Living spaces, halls and commercial interiors

Suitable uses include living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, entrance halls and corridors. The manufacturer also identifies hotels and restaurants. Plan its location around the shade diameter, the 30 cm projection and the chosen bulb's performance. For a larger room, assess how many fittings are needed rather than assuming that one shade of this size will illuminate a particular floor area.
