s.luce Velo clear glass ceiling light, E27, 25 cm

The clear-glass s.luce Velo ceiling light combines a 25 cm shade with vertical ribbing and a black metal base. Its mouth-blown glass has a rounded outline rather than a flat diffuser. The bulb remains visible through it, making the bulb's shape part of the fitting's appearance.

A ceiling fitting with a 30 cm height

This version measures 25 cm across and 30 cm in height. Direct ceiling mounting does not mean a shallow profile, so compare that height with the clearance above doors and beneath the electrical connection before choosing its position. This is one light with a single shade, not the group of fittings shown in some photographs of the Velo range.

The manufacturer also permits wall mounting. This gives another placement option within the same design family, although the glass body will project into the room and needs to be allowed for when planning the installation.

Choose a separate E27 bulb

There is one E27 socket, with a maximum bulb power of 40 W. A bulb is not included. The replaceable light source lets you select brightness and colour temperature for the intended setting rather than accepting a fixed integrated LED specification. Clear glass leaves the bulb envelope and any exposed filaments on view, so a decorative filament bulb affects the appearance even when switched off.

Dimming is possible with a suitable light source. If adjustable brightness is required, choose a dimmable bulb and a compatible dimmer. The E27 socket does not make every bulb fitted to it dimmable.

Textured glass for modern rooms

The vertical ribs and curved edges contrast with the simple black mounting base. This suits modern interiors where the glass surface provides the decoration instead of elaborate metal arms. The manufacturer identifies living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, hallways and kitchens as applications. Decide the position and number of fittings from the room dimensions and the selected bulb's light output, rather than from a photograph of the illuminated shade alone.
